Amsterdam is a safe haven to the musicians of Zorita, who came there from various places across Europe. Starting out with five members in 2008, the band now has grown to an ensemble of eight musicians in 2009. With a whole range of instruments at their disposal and a sound of their own, Zorita combines the dirt and dissonance of the likes of Tom Waits with the exotic of Calexico and Lhasa de Sela; the melancholy of Jacques Brel and Beirut with danceable rhythms of Gogol Bordello and Manu Chao.
